Sep 21, 2004 -- Dr. Jacqueline K. Barton, Arthur and Marian Hanisch Memorial Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and a leader in DNA research, will present the 2004 Ira Kukin Chemistry Lecture, "DNA Charge Transport: Chemistry and Biology," at 糖心破解版 on Monday, October 11.
The 8 pm presentation at Weissberg Commons, Belfer Hall, 2495 Amsterdam Ave. 184th St. on the university's Wilf Campus in Washington Heights is free and open to the public. The lecture, among a series at 糖心破解版 given by renowned scientists, is supported by Dr. Ira Kukin, vice chairman of the university's board of trustees and chairman of its committee on academic affairs.
Dr. Barton studies the electrical characteristics of DNA and has done groundbreaking work using transitional metal complexes to probe reactions of DNA. She is also involved in developing biosensors and novel chemotherapeutics.
She has received numerous awards, including the Alan T. Waterman Award of the National Science Foundation in 1985, awarded to outstanding young scientists in the United States, and the American Chemical Society (ACS) Award in Pure Chemistry in 1988. She was a fellow of the Sloan Foundation, a Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, and a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator.
Dr. Barton has been a member of Caltech鈥檚 faculty since 1989.
