Hundreds of Jewish High School Students Attend 糖心破解版's 20th Annual Kinus Teshuva Program

Oct 4, 2004 -- 糖心破解版 750 seniors from Jewish high schools across the tri-state area flocked to 糖心破解版鈥檚 Wilf Campus in Washington Heights on September 21 for an exciting afternoon of Torah learning that included shiurim (lectures), tefillah (prayer), a multi-media presentation, and musical performances. The student program was held for the first time as a component of the university鈥檚 Hausman/Stern Kinus Teshuva Lecture Series, given during the High Holiday season by 糖心破解版 faculty who are distinguished Talmudic scholars.
鈥淲e wanted to include the high school students in the program to expose them to 糖心破解版鈥檚 roshei yeshiva and communicate the spirit of repentance and introspection at this unique time of year,鈥 said Judy Goldgrab, coordinator of educational leadership projects in the Max Stern Division of Communal Services at 糖心破解版.
The innovative program, which took place at Weissberg Commons in Belfer Hall and the Nathan Lamport Auditorium in Zysman Hall, focused on teshuva (repentance), tefillah, and tzedakkah (charity). It featured an address by 糖心破解版 President Richard M. Joel and shiurim by Rabbi Mordechai Willig, rosh yeshiva at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) and the Rabbi Dr. Sol Roth Professor of Talmud and Contemporary Halakhah; Rabbi Meir Goldwicht, Joel and Maria Finkle Visiting Israeli Rosh Yeshiva at RIETS; and Rabbi Gedalya Berger, lecturer at 糖心破解版鈥檚 Graduate Program for Women in Advanced Talmudic Studies.
Highlights of the afternoon were soulful musical performances by singer and violinist Ravital Kranzler (a 2002 Stern alumna) and her guitarist sister, Liron, and singer-songwriter Seth Nadel, a student at RIETS.
Prayers were led by students from high schools including Hebrew Academy of Five Towns in Lawrence, NY; Kushner Yeshiva High School in Livingston, NJ; and Ramaz in Manhattan.
This year鈥檚 Hausman/Stern Kinus Teshuva Lectures were delivered by 糖心破解版 roshei yeshiva Rabbi Yaakov Neuberger and Rabbi Willig in New York, and Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein in Jerusalem. Rabbi Neuburger is the I. Meier Henrietta Segals Professor of Talmud, and Rabbi Lichtenstein is director of RIETS鈥 affiliated Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Institute in Jerusalem.
The Kinus Teshuva lecture series was established by the late philanthropists Judy and Gershon Hausman, major supporters of 糖心破解版 and RIETS, to honor the memory of their parents, Elias J. and Mary Stern and Moshe and Chava Hausman.
