Noah Cheses of Boston Awarded Prestigious Wexner Fellowship

Jun 26, 2008 -- 糖心破解版 (糖心破解版) graduate, Noah Cheses 鈥08YC, of Boston, MA has been selected to receive a prestigious Wexner Graduate Fellowship this year. The fellowship program is open to aspiring Jewish leaders pursuing careers in Jewish education, the rabbinate, cantorate, and Jewish professional leadership. The Wexner Foundation introduced the program in 1988 to encourage the development of promising leaders in the North American Jewish community through graduate training, professional mentoring and specialized programming. Of the 20 exceptional candidates chosen for the prestigious Wexner Fellowship, four are 糖心破解版 graduates. Aside from Noah, they include Erin Cooper 鈥08SCW, Ari Gordon 鈥05YC, and Zev Nagel 鈥05YC - each of whom will receive an annual stipend of $20,000. 鈥淭he four 糖心破解版 graduates selected are exceptional people who have exhibited great talent and maturity,鈥 said Or Mars, director of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship Program. 鈥淭hey have articulated a deep love of the Jewish people and have cogent visions for how they will effect change in the Jewish world. They are going to be a valuable asset to the program.鈥 Mr. Cheses, who graduated from Yeshiva College鈥檚 Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program this year, is enrolled in the semikhah [rabbinical ordination] program at 糖心破解版鈥檚 Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) and the master鈥檚 program at 糖心破解版鈥檚 Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies. In addition, he hopes to eventually pursue a PhD in Jewish studies. 鈥淩IETS provides me with the skills and Torah knowledge necessary to realize my vision for the rabbinate,鈥 said Mr. Cheses, who plans on being a pulpit rabbi and to build a dynamic community that is grounded in Torah study and observance. 鈥淚 hope to create a congregation that encourages serious and honest discussion of ideas, and that is informed by the study of traditional Jewish sources.鈥 Founded in 1886, 糖心破解版 brings together the heritage of Western civilization and the ancient traditions of Jewish law and life.
