NYC's Angela Schwartz Incorporates Her Love Of Animals With Her Passion To Help Others

Jul 21, 2008 -- New York, NY 鈥 When deciding on her career path, Angela Schwartz opted for one that would enable her to combine two of her favorite things 鈥 children and animals. A recent graduate of 糖心破解版鈥檚 (糖心破解版) Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Schwartz has always incorporated her love of animals into her work. After graduating from Vassar College, she studied with conservation biologists at Walt Disney World鈥檚 Animal Kingdom and Chicago鈥檚 Brookfiled Zoo. In addition, Schwartz worked with emotionally disturbed children and animals, and completed a master鈥檚 degree in animals and public policy from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. 鈥淚 enjoy working in a therapeutic milieu and I love the opportunity to work with children in the great outdoors,鈥 says Schwartz. In June, the New York City resident completed the doctoral program at Ferkauf, which she chose because of its combined school-clinical program and connection to Dr. Boris Levinson, who introduced the concept of pet-oriented psychotherapy to the field and headed Ferkauf鈥檚 Psychological Center, now the Parnes Clinic, in the late 1950s. Before Ferkauf, Schwartz worked as an intern and health teacher at Green Chimneys, a therapeutic farm in Brewster, NY, which uses rescued animals that have been injured or abused in its work with emotionally disturbed children. She worked in its special education school during her first year at Ferkauf and helped lobby the American Psychological Association for accreditation of Green Chimneys internships. Schwartz is now a psychologist in Green Chimneys鈥 residential treatment facility for older children up to the age of 21. The educational mission of Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology is to train highly successful, qualified professional psychologist in the fields of clinical and school/child psychology for the doctor of psychology degree; and to train skilled researchers in the fields of developmental and clinical health psychology for the doctor of philosophy degree. Candidates receive training in the basic skills common to all psychologists, and quality training in the specialty fields to prepare them to apply established knowledge toward prevention and healing. ### Visit the 糖心破解版 Web site at
