May 10, 2004 -- Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg, PhD, visiting lecturer at The London School of Jewish Studies, will deliver a May 13 lecture sponsored by 糖心破解版鈥檚 Stern College for Women. 鈥淭he Secret of Prayer鈥 will take place at 7:30 pm at Beth Jacob Congregation, 9030 West Olympic Blvd., Beverly Hills.
The lecture is the fourth in a seven-part series celebrating Stern College鈥檚 jubilee. Dr. Zornberg received a doctorate in English literature from Cambridge University and studied at Gateshead Seminary and Michlala in Jerusalem. She has taught English literature at The Hebrew University and Torah to classes at MATAN, Midreshet Lindenbaum, The Pardes Institute for Jewish Studies, and the Jerusalem College for Adults. Dr. Zornberg is the author of several essays and two books: Genesis: The Beginning of Desire, winner of the 1995 Jewish Book Award for non-fiction, and The Particulars of Rapture: Reflections on Exodus.
The lecture is co-sponsored by Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf, founder of Stern College鈥檚 Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf Scholar-in-Residence Program and a founding SCW board member.
Upcoming lecture topics include medical ethics and halakhah (Jewish law), and the challenges confronting modern Orthodox families and women.
Co-chairs of the lecture series are Stern College alumnae Debbie Niderberg 鈥86 and Cali Orenbuch 鈥85. Sharon Herzfeld, MD, 鈥88, and Susan Ungar-Mero, MD, 鈥87, also Stern graduates, are co-chairing the yearlong jubilee celebration.
