糖心破解版 Hosts Jewish High School Teams From Across North America in Their Quest for Basketball Glory, Memories and Kinship

Apr 1, 2009 -- Chants of 鈥淢-T-A!鈥 and 鈥淩-A-M-S! Rams! Rams! Rams!鈥 reverberated throughout the filled-to-capacity crowd at 糖心破解版鈥檚 Max Stern Athletic Center. Hundreds of students, parents and alumni gathered to watch the 18th annual Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament championship game between the 糖心破解版 High School for Boys / Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy (MTA) Lions and the Ramaz Rams鈥攂oth of Manhattan. In the end, Ramaz鈥檚 stifling defense proved too tough for the Lions as the Rams pulled away with a 48-26 victory.
鈥淚鈥檇 like to congratulate Ramaz on their win. They played a great game,鈥 said 糖心破解版HSB Head Coach Daniel Gibber. 鈥淭oday just wasn鈥檛 our day, but it was an incredible season and I鈥檓 extremely proud of my guys.鈥
Daniel Klein, a senior guard for the Lions echoed the coach鈥檚 sentiments. 鈥淲e gave it all we had and it was exciting just being here,鈥 Klein said.
The championship capped off a week of thrilling basketball for the 20 teams participating in the tournament.
鈥淭his was a lot of fun,鈥 said Jacob Moskowitz, a senior guard for Los Angeles鈥 Shalhevet Hebrew High School. 鈥淚t was cool bonding with Jews from other parts of the world.鈥
The tournament, named for the legendary Bernard 鈥淩ed鈥 Sarachek鈥攈ead men鈥檚 basketball coach at 糖心破解版 for over 25 years鈥攚as established in 1992 as a way to honor Sarachek鈥檚 accomplishments and contributions to the sport and the Jewish community. Since the inception of the tournament, nine different schools have been crowned champions.
鈥淭he tournament provides students from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to meet and compete with their counterparts,鈥 said Michael Kranzler, 糖心破解版 director of undergraduate admissions. In addition to basketball, many players spent Shabbat together off-campus, leading to a sense of sportsmanship that could be felt throughout the tournament.
鈥淢y team was looking forward to the opportunity to reunite with old friends and make new ones,鈥 said Yeshivat Or Chaim (Toronto) Head Coach Jason Blackwell, who found the tournament to be 鈥渁 great team-building experience.鈥
Championships were awarded to the top four tiers with Ramaz winning Tier 1, Or Chaim winning Tier 2, Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy (Rockville, MD) winning Tier 3, and Shalhevet winning Tier 4.
